Book Review 4: Amazing Grace

Do your children love stories? Do they act them out and pretend to be one of the characters? If so, your family might find this book fascinating! 😌

AMAZING GRACE, written by Mary Hoffman and illustrated by Caroline Binch, is the story of a girl named Grace who loves stories of all kinds. From books to movies to memories told by her grandmother, Grace would act the stories out, dressing up as different characters and having a grand adventure through her make-believe play!

With encouragement from her family, Grace auditioned as Peter Pan in their school play even if she was told by her classmates that she can’t be Peter Pan because Peter is a boy’s name and he isn’t black. However, her determination, initiative and positive attitude got her the part and she was amazing!

This inspiring story of empowerment and optimism is accompanied by beautiful realistic drawings. The details of how the clothes and objects were drawn, the facial expressions of the characters, and even the background settings “brought” me and my children to Grace’s time and place when we read this book!

Simply a feel-good favorite—we’ve honestly lost count of how many times we’ve read this book in our home. Nth time and counting! 🤗
