Book Review 3: Made by Maxine
Have you ever dreamed of becoming an inventor? Are you raising a budding tinker? If yes, you would love this book! 🙋🏻♀️
MADE BY MAXINE by Ruth Spiro, illustrated by Holly Hatam, is the story of a little girl who loves to tinker with old things to create something new. Using her imagination, Maxine “decontructs and reconstructs” and ”unscrews and re-glues” (words that describe how my little girl works at our arts&crafts station!). Her best project yet solved the problem of bringing her pet fish to their school parade. Maxine faced problems and discouragement, but she tried and tried again. When she finished, it was awesome!
The illustrations are so playful! Each colorful page is filled with every day items that children can find in their homes. And yet there is a lot of new activity in the drawings and so when we read this book, we go beyond the text and talk more about what we see.
It’s all about inspiring creativity and diligence! We simply love this book.😊
Note for parent-teachers:
We can identify here these character qualities.
- CREATIVITY – defined as “approaching a need, a task, or an idea from a new perspective”
- DILIGENCE – defined as “investing time and energy to complete each task assigned to me”
(Definitions came from Achieving True Success, How to Build Character as a Family–a must-have book for all homes!)
